Superior Sport Network had their Annual Superior Sports Network Toy's Drive At The Ryan's Restaurant on December 11, 2011 at 5:30 p.m., where several of staff members and guest (s) donated toys & support for the children in the community. One on One interview with Rocket City Titans Champion David Battle with Jonathan Inman Basketball Player of Alabama A&M University

The program's mission was to assist and educate our HBCU Athletes and future business moguls to become entrepreneurs on how to take control of their own destiny, with no excuses.

Mr. Battle was a Guest Speaker at the James A. Lane Boys and Girls Club, in Huntsville, AL of The 2011 America’s HBCU-RM NFL/NBA Development Mentoring Clinic. David Battle discusses his win battle against drugs & alcohol. As a young man, Battle stayed in trouble with the law which included possession of cocaine and second degree theft. His life started going downward in 1993. In 1994 he was charged with robbery and in 1997 he went back to prison on charges of assault and theft of property. “God told me that if I wanted a better life to just trust him, and he will do the rest” said Battle.

“Football was my life," said Battle, the father of three sons. "I've always wanted to play again and this was an opportunity I couldn't pass up. I'm living a dream." Battle spends his spare time talking with kids about the evils of drugs and alcohol. He walks the streets where he used to hang out, trying to encourage kids not to throw away their lives.

“To hear and listen to David’s life changing journey, he is what I call a Regal Celebrity that has made a difference in his family and in the community. His testimony is a perfect fit of what our mentoring programs needs to listen & re-evaluate our priorities to the next level, said Commissioner K. Carrington-De’Laine, of Superior Sports Network.

With offensive and defensive players of the year returning from 2009 in Prairie View quarterback K.J. Black and Grambling defensive end Christian Anthony, the preseason all-SWAC football team for 2010 carried few surprises - especially since Prairie View and Alabama A&M were selected to repeat as respective division champions for the upcoming season.

Anthony was a dominant defensive force who finished 10th in the league with 76 tackles and third overall in both sacks (8.0) and tackles-for-loss (15.0) in 2009. As a defensive lineman he recorded five interceptions and returned two of them for touchdowns for the Tigers. He led the league in fumbles forced with five, and he recovered three loose balls.

Black was the premier offensive threat in the SWAC in 2009 while leading the Panthers to their first conference title in nearly half a century. Black threw for 225.9 yards per game and led the league in pass efficiency by nearly 30 points at 172.8. He tossed 22 touchdowns on the season with just four interceptions.

PREDICTED ORDER OF FINISH

The Farmers Insurance SWAC Football Championship Game should be a rematch on December 11 at Legion Field, according to the Southwestern Athletic Conference coaches, sports information directors, and selected media members.The selection group has picked Prairie View A&M and Alabama A&M to repeat as respective division champions for the 2010 season.

Mason brings nearly 10 years of sports information background to the Conference office, having worked as the Sports Information Director at North Carolina A&T (2001-03), and as an assistant at Morgan State, Elon University, Coppin State , and the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference office.

Mason, a native of Ft. Washington, Maryland, earned her Bachelor's of Science degree with a concentration in Sport Administration from Morgan State and a Master of Science in Sport Studies from High Point University.

The Michael Baisden Show will broadcast live from the Alabama A&M University Elmore Gymnasium as part of The One Million Mentors Campaign , which is designed to encourage qualified adults to sign up as mentors.

There are more than 14 million children in the United States in need of mentoring and Michael Baisden will be bringing his message of support to 72 cities during the next seven months with the Save Our Kids Bus Tour.

Local mentors will share their personal success stories of working with children in their community.

Representatives from local mentoring programs, including Big Brothers Big Sisters, The National CARES Mentoring Movement, 100 Black Men and Superior Sports Network will be available to register qualified adults for matching with area children on waiting lists for mentors.

In addition to driving registration for new mentors, Baisden will also be raising funding for mentoring programs across the tour markets by matching contributions from participants up to $350,000.

The Michael Baisden Foundation, which is dedicated to providing educational support in communities, will then direct the funds toward local mentoring programs.

Any local 501(c)3 focused on mentoring is welcome to participate.

Miles College Host America's HBCU-RM & Entertainment Trade Event

(Huntsville/AL) – On May 2, 2009, the Miles College Athletics Department will host The Superior Sports Network Sports & Entertainment Trade Show on campus at the Knox-Windham Gymnasium. The sports and entertainment trade show will showcase a variety of professional sports leagues such as football, basketball and baseball, to help with recruitment of their programs and maybe an opportunity to work for a professional team. Plus, there will be financial counseling and businesses to assist and educate entrepreneurs on how to take control of their own destiny.

" We are encouraging the high school coaches, college coaches and players to attend this event and obtain first hand knowledge from professional scouts and representatives on what their organization are looking for and to be apart of their team and obtain that sports career," said Augustus James, Athletic Director of Miles College. This event is free and open to the public and the doors will open at 8:00 a.m. and run through 12:00 p.m.
Following the Sports and Entertainment Trade Show, at 11:30 p.m. the Miles College Golden Bears will play their M-Day Purple & Golden Football Game.

Barack Obama swept to victory as the nation's first black president Tuesday night in an electoral college landslide that overcame racial barriers as old as America itself.

The son of a black father from Kenya and a white mother from Kansas, the Democratic senator from Illinois sealed his historic triumph by defeating Republican Sen. John McCain in a string of wins in hard-fought battleground states - Ohio, Florida, Virginia and Iowa.

A huge crowd in Grant Park in Obama's home town of Chicago erupted in jubilation at the news of his victory. Some wept.

McCain called his former rival to concede defeat - and the end of his own 10-year quest for the White House. "The American people have spoken, and spoken clearly," McCain told disappointed supporters in Arizona.

Obama and his running mate, Sen. Joseph Biden of Delaware, will take their oaths of office as president and vice president on Jan. 20, 2009.

As the 44th president, Obama will move into the Oval Office as leader of a country that is almost certainly in recession, and fighting two long wars, one in Iraq, the other in Afghanistan.

The popular vote was close, but not the count in the Electoral College, where it mattered most.

There, Obama's audacious decision to contest McCain in states that hadn't gone Democratic in years paid rich dividends.

Obama has said his first order of presidential business will be to tackle the economy. He has also pledged to withdraw most U.S. combat troops from Iraq within 16 months.

Fellow Democrats rode his coattails to larger majorities in both houses of Congress. They defeated incumbent Republicans and won open seats by turn.

The 47-year-old Illinois senator was little known just four years ago. A widely praised speech at the Democratic National Convention, delivered when he was merely a candidate for the Senate, changed that.

Overnight he became a sought-after surrogate campaigner, and he had scarcely settled into his Senate seat when he began preparing for his run for the White House.

A survey of voters leaving polling places on Tuesday showed the economy was by far the top Election Day issue. Six in 10 voters said so, and none of the other top issues - energy, Iraq, terrorism and health care - was picked by more than one in 10.

"May God bless whoever wins tonight," President Bush told dinner guests at the White House, where his tenure runs out on Jan. 20.

The Democratic leaders of Congress celebrated in Washington.

"It is not a mandate for a party or ideology but a mandate for change," said Senate Majority leader Harry Reid of Nevada.

Said Speaker Nancy Pelosi of California: "Tonight the American people have called for a new direction. They have called for change in America."

Shortly after 11 p.m. in the East, The Associated Press count showed Obama with 338 electoral votes, well over the 270 needed for victory. McCain had 127 after winning states that comprised the normal Republican base.

The nationwide popular vote was remarkably close. Totals from 58 percent of the nation's precincts showed Obama with 51 percent and McCain with 47.9.

Interviews with voters suggested that almost six in 10 women were backing Obama nationwide, while men leaned his way by a narrow margin. Just over half of whites supported McCain, giving him a slim advantage in a group that Bush carried overwhelmingly in 2004.

The results of the AP survey were based on a preliminary partial sample of nearly 10,000 voters in Election Day polls and in telephone interviews over the past week for early voters.

Democrats also acclaimed Senate successes by former Gov. Mark Warner in Virginia, Rep. Tom Udall in New Mexico and Rep. Mark Udall in Colorado. All won seats left open by Republican retirements.

In New Hampshire, former Gov. Jeanne Shaheen defeated Republican Sen. John Sununu in a rematch of their 2002 race, and Sen. Elizabeth Dole fell to Democrat Kay Hagan in North Carolina.

Democrats also looked for gains in the House. They defeated Republican incumbents Rep. Tom Feeney and Ric Keller in Florida, 22-year veteran Chris Shays in Connecticut and Rep. Robin Hayes in North Carolina.

At least two Democrats lost their seats. Rep. Kevin Mahoney fell after admitting to two extramarital affairs while serving his first term in Florida. In Louisiana, Democratic Rep. Don Cazayoux lost the seat he had won in a special election six months ago.

The resurgent Democrats also elected a governor in one of the nation's traditional bellwether states when Missouri Attorney General Jay Nixon won his race.

The White House was the main prize of the night on which 35 Senate seats and all 435 House seats were at stake. A dozen states elected governors, and ballots across the country were dotted with issues ranging from taxes to gay rights.

An estimated 187 million voters were registered, and in an indication of interest in the battle for the White House, 40 million or so had already voted as Election Day dawned.

Obama sought election as one of the youngest presidents, and one of the least experienced in national political affairs.

That wasn't what set the Illinois senator apart, though - neither from his rivals nor from the other men who had served as president since the nation's founding more than two centuries ago. A black man, he confronted a previously unbreakable barrier as he campaigned on twin themes of change and hope in uncertain times.

McCain, a prisoner of war during Vietnam, a generation older than his rival at 72, was making his second try for the White House, following his defeat in the battle for the GOP nomination in 2000.

A conservative, he stressed his maverick's streak. And although a Republican, he did what he could to separate himself from an unpopular president.

For the most part, the two presidential candidates and their running mates, Biden and Republican Gov. Sarah Palin of Alaska, spent weeks campaigning in states that went for Bush four years ago.

McCain and Obama each won contested nominations - the Democrat outdistancing former first lady Hillary Rodham Clinton - and promptly set out to claim the mantle of change.

Obama won Colorado, Nevada, California, Hawaii, Oregon, Washington, Florida, Virginia, New Mexico, Iowa, Ohio, Wisconsin, Michigan, New York, Rhode Island, Minnesota, Pennsylvania, New Hampshire, Vermont, Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Maine, Massachusetts, Maryland and New Jersey, as well as the District of Columbia.

McCain had Nebraska, Idaho, Mississippi, Texas, West Virginia, Utah, Arkansas, Kansas, Kentucky, Tennessee, Oklahoma, Wyoming, Alabama, South Carolina, Louisiana, South Dakota and North Dakota.

Billy Joe is a legend in black college football and we are excited about the impact he will have on our program,” Miles Athletics Director Augustus James said during the press conference. “This brings a whole lot to our program. A different caliber of student-athlete will be drawn to our program. People want to play for a legend.”During his 31-year career as a head coach, Joe has won seven National Black College Football Championships and two NAIA titles.

He led the FAMU Rattlers to five Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference titles and appearances in the Football Championship Subdivision (Division I-AA) playoffs in seven of his 11 years at FAMU. He has a career coaching record of 237-108-4, making him the fourth all-time winningest coach in FCS history and second in black college football history. In addition to coaching at FAMU, Joe coached at Central State University in Ohio from 1981 to 1993 and Cheyney University in Pennsylvania from 1972-1978.

Joe, who played seven years in the NFL for three teams and won a Super Bowl with the 1968 New York Jets, has been inducted into both FAMU Hall of Fame and the National Football Foundational College Hall of Fame.

Tony Dungy is the Sports Person Of The Month in August

Tony Dungy, a former professional football player and current coach for the Indianapolis Colts, is also known as one of the most respected and popular NFL coaches in the league. Colleagues and friends consider him to be a family man of great faith and Christian character.

Dungy was born and raised in Jackson, Michigan. He and his wife Lauren have five children - daughters Tiara and Jade, sons James, Eric, and Jordan. James, their second-oldest child, was found dead in an apparent suicide in his Tampa area apartment on December 22, 2005.

While in college at the University of Minnesota, Dungy played quarterback. He then went on to play safety for the Pittsburgh Steelers from 1977 - 1978 and also in 1979 for the San Francisco 49'ers.

Dungy kicked off his coaching career in 1980, as the defensive backs coach at his alma mater, the University of Minnesota. In 1981, at age twenty-five, Dungy became assistant coach for the Steelers, and then three years later was promoted to defensive coordinator.
Dungy then moved to the Kansas City Chiefs as defensive backs coach from 1989-1991 and defensive coordinator from 1992 - 1995 with the Minnesota Vikings.

In 1996 he was named head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He remained head coach of the Buccaneers until 2001 when he was fired by the team for repeated losses. In January of 2002 Dungy was made head coach of the Indianapolis Colts.

In 1997 the Maxwell Football Club named Dungy Professional Coach of the Year.
In 2007 Tony Dungy became the first African American to coach a winning Super Bowl (XLI) team. Dungy published his first book, Quiet Strength, in 2007.

Kevin McCants, Jr. and Arnecia Bradley, joins Superior Sports Network MDE Ambassador Program and will be the New Host of Superior Sports Network All-Access Granted with comedian Ced Delaney this season!

Kevin currently resides in Huntsville, AL as a student at Alabama A&M University where he is an Electrical Engineering and Psychology major. He is a member of the A&M Rocket Club. He was a member of the Alabama A&M University Football Team where he played runningback for three years. Kevin is now completing his degree and working with Superior Sports Management Properties Development Program.

An alumnus of Alabama A&M University, Arnecia graduated with a 3.62 grade point average in Civil Engineering while minoring in Telecommunications. Arnecia was well involved in her undergraduate community. While attending Alabama A&M University, she was named Outstanding Scholar for the School of Engineering and Technology 2002, founder of the AAMU Chapter of the Society of Women Engineers, Senior Class President, Presidential Scholar, Co-Op Professional Club President, member of the Honors College Program, NASA Space Grant Fellowship recipient, UNCF Corporate Scholar and the list continues. She also serves as an Ambassador for the Monster Inc Diversity Leadership Program in which she received an all expense paid trip to Jamaica, New York and Boston, Massachusetts, speaking to upcoming college juniors and seniors about options after undergraduate school, personal finances, formatting a resume, and conducting a perfect interview.

Ced is a graduate of Sumter County High School, attended Birmingham Southern College and UAB and has represented with nothing but, crazy class. Delaney has performed in cities across America as well as Europe, and has hosted tours with the best of the best in comedy including Rickey Smiley, Cedric The Entertainer, Steve Harvey, and Dave Chappelle.

Ced Delaney is a regular guest on BET’s “Comic View” and is a highly sought out host for a variety of events. He’s hosted monthly comedy nights at Workplay called The “Ced Delaney.COMedy Nite”, and “Tickle Tuesday’s” at Comedy Club Stardome. He has also hosted the “UPN Sunday Movie Showcase”, as well as the weekly televised “SWACtacular” which covers all events in the Southwestern Athletic Conference. Ced has acted in plays such as, “Choo Choo Me Home”, a story about the Pullman Porter, “Once In A Wifetime”, a story about Polygamy, and “4-X-ample”, which is also the movie “The Job”, a story about how work can interfere with a relationship, Delaney is co-star of this movie.

In addition to his professional life, Ced is also devoted to giving back to the community. In 2001, he began the Be A Man Foundation, a mentoring program for teen males to help them become better men and productive citizens. The organization tackles areas of literacy, self worth, and community involvement. In addition to his work with the Be A Man Foundation, Ced is also very active with the Big Brothers program.
